As well as all the excitement that comes with planning your dream wedding, wedding planning can also be full of misplaced quotes, budgets that won’t add up and version 4, 5 and 6 of your guest list (which your grandmother still isn’t happy with!). So how the heck do you get organised in the middle of all of this? Get your note pad out, because I’m here to share my top tips for staying organised in the lead up to your big day!
Forget the paper binder
I tried this. In fact, I tried this twice while planning my own wedding and trust me, it just doesn’t work. When 99% of your quotes are emailed to you, and all of your payments are done on your St George banking app, there is simply no point in killing another tree to print these documents out and store them in your binder. As satisfying as it is to have a nicely colour-coded binder, it’s just not practical.
learn how to manage files
Instead, good file management practices (on your laptop, not in your dad’s old filing cabinet) will be your savior. This means having folders for each component of your wedding, and making sure you name your files appropriately so that each quote, contract or invoice is easy to find. Hot tip: make sure you back up your files on the cloud (just in case your laptop decides to bail on you just before your wedding!).
stick to your timeline
Usually payments to your wedding venue and vendors will be made in installments, and these are due on specific dates (if not before). We all want to save a buck, so it’s best to keep your money in your own bank account until the due date. However, you must remember when this due date is! Make sure you have a detailed timeline outlining all of your payment due dates. This will make sure you don’t miss any deadline and leave any of your vendors hanging! Your timeline should also include other milestones, like when to send out your invitations, when to buy your wedding rings etc.
invest in a wedding planner
Possibly the most important tip of all is to invest in a wedding planner. Wedding planners can usually cater to your budget, and will work with you to provide the services you require. Need someone to look after your quotes, budget, invoices, RSVPS (and every other aspect of your wedding)? We’ve got your back. For those of you who are super organised and all over your budget and timeline, you may only need your wedding planner for on-the-day coordination. This frees you up to sit back and enjoy the day you’ve planned so hard for.
Here at The Wild Pair, you can opt for one of our three wedding planning and coordination packages, or we can organise a custom quote for you.
So, what are you going to do to make sure you don’t lose that next quote, or miss that next payment?
